Blackpool Council’s Cultural Services provide some wonderful activities, events and workshops for people of all ages to take part in throughout the year:
WORDPOOL FESTIVAL
Wordpool Festival is Blackpool’s Arts and Libraries Festival of Words. 2018 will be Wordpool’s 11th year and has been supported by the Arts Lottery, through Arts Council England, to help extend and develop the festival programme. The new Festival of Written Word will focus on ways to introduce new writing and encouraging new readers and will work with both well-known and emerging authors. The Festival is managed by Blackpool Council’s Arts and Library Services.
The Festival of Written Word will launch with a stylishly late afternoon tea in Stanley Park’s evocative Art Deco Café on 15th May 2018. A panel of leading romantic fiction authors will be in attendance for a fabulously fun evening. The author line up will be announced soon…

The S.O.S RescueShip travels through land, air, and sea seeking story-savers to help in its mission.

The RescueShip works alongside teachers and children’s services to make sure that all children achieve the very best they can. The programme is unique, innovative, challenging and fun; supported by writers, performers, poets and artists who know how to bring stories alive and to inspire young story creators. It is adventurous and reliable, professional and approachable, entertaining and informative.

FYLDE COAST YOUTH DANCE COMPANY
Fylde Coast Youth Dance Company (FCYDC) are a contemporary youth dance company from Blackpool and the Fylde Coast aged 11-19 years. The company audition for members once a year and focus on developing creative practice and performance skills within the contemporary dance sector. The company make 2-3 performance pieces per year, taking a lead role in the choreographic development of the work, making decisions, organising and teaching their movement material to other dancers.
These performances are then performed at prestigious venues across the North West and beyond, including Blackpool’s Winter Gardens, Blackpool Tower Ballroom, The Lowry (Salford), and The Dukes Theatre (Lancaster).

HERITAGE BLACKPOOL
Heritage Blackpool runs The History Centre based on the first floor of Blackpool Central Library on Queen Street, which collects, preserves and makes available the historic collections of Blackpool including archives, photographs and ephemera. The Centre regularly runs events and sessions to allow the public to explore and discover the collections in more detail.
The History Centre has certain collections on open access including:
- Newspapers on microfilm
- Local History publications
- Electoral registers
- Parish registers
- Holiday guides
- Mass Observations on microfilm and much more
The core historic collections are available on request and include:
- Tower Company Archive, the largest collection of entertainment history in Blackpool, and one of the country's most significant entertainment archives
- The Circus Archive
- The Cyril Critchlow Collection
- The Illuminations Collection
- The Blackpool Tourism Collection.
