As part of the recently announced Capital of Dance festival due to take Blackpool by storm this month, Sadler’s Wells and National Youth Dance Company (NYDC) have announced they will be taking up residency at Pleasure Beach Resort Arena where they’ll be hosting a free workshop and first-stage audition.
On Sunday June 23 between 2-4pm, the world leading organisations are inviting aspiring dancers from across Blackpool and the North West to take part in the workshop - where they will meet guest artists from NYDC and Boy Blue (NYDC Guest Artistic Directors).
Young adults between the ages of 16 and 18 (24 with accessibility needs) will have the chance to experience innovative dance programmes, with the exclusive opportunity to audition for the company. The workshop and auditions are suited to all aspiring dancers who want to try their hand at dance or showcase their existing talent.
Amanda Thompson OBE, CEO of Pleasure Beach Resort said: “Blackpool is the home of entertainment with a wealth of artistic talent. I’m passionate about nurturing talent and sharing my love for theatre, so it only seemed right that we took part in the Capital of Dance festival.
“As home to the world’s first purpose built ice arena, it’s special to us that we are able to continue to support some of the best talent in dance and movement.
“We’re so excited to welcome NYDC through our doors and we can’t wait to see the local youth showcase their skills in our Arena. This is not an opportunity to be missed!”
Capital of Dance is the world’s first fringe festival dedicated to dance and movement. From June 14 – July 14, Blackpool will transform into a live hub of dance, with pop-up performances, classes, workshops and shows across the resort.
Funded by UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Funding (UKSPF) and also by Blackpool Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID), the event is in partnership with an unrivalled collection of associate Blackpool venues from large theatres and ballrooms to independent contributors.
Marina Blore, Artistic Director of Capital of Dance said: “Capital of Dance will promote and build on the town’s fantastic dance heritage – there really is nowhere quite like Blackpool.
“The town already plays host to dozens of international dance competitions every year, the world’s longest running ice dance production at Pleasure Beach Resort, together with the famous names who grace The Grand Theatre and Winter Gardens throughout the year. We’re so excited to see Blackpool’s talent!”
Anyone who is wanting to take part in the workshop can do so by signing up here.
