A new exhibition by Grumpy Girl Graphics opens 10th October at the Blott Artists Studios in Blackpool. The exhibition features over 30 graphic art prints and light installations and will be on display until 11th November.
The exhibition is called ‘Oi! Look what I made.’ And Grumpy Girl dissects her exhibition into three series:
-
‘ome is where the ‘art is : a sample of typography pieces which are inspired by Blackpool culture and dialect, playing on the fame that the town once had and the language the locals use in everyday life. Designed to celebrate the beauty in the mundane.
-
Colours of my soul: a variety of works from digital prints to installations that depict emotion through colour and light . Built to draw a link between colours and emotions and to gain a greater understanding of how we interpret them.
-
Women & words: a selection of works which breaks down the relationship we have with women and the words we use to describe them.curated to inspire a more positive conversation about women and girls.
Grumpy Girl is a local freelance artist and designer that graduated from the Manchester School of Art in 2018. In 2019, she ran an exhibition at “It’s a Gallery” to raise money for local mental health charities. The piece, “colours of my soul” was on display along with many other local artists.
Grumpy Girl is mainly known for her bold graphics typography pieces, where she uses words which are usually overlooked in everyday life and turns them into statement pieces. When asked about the art exhibition, Grumpy Girl said "I wanted to make a space which celebrated Blackpool’s culture whilst raising awareness of mental health.”
The exhibition open evening is a free event with complimentary food and drinks. The doors open at 18:00 on 10th October and the last entry is at 21:00.
Due to local lockdown restrictions you will have to book your place online to avoid overcrowding in the gallery. You can find your tickets on Grumpy Girls website.
The exhibition is running until 11th November, and can be viewed Monday to Thursday 10:30 till 13:30 at the Gallery, where no booking is required.
