The Illuminations have lit up the night skies over Blackpool for more than a century. The hundreds and thousands of twinkling lights along the seafront, stretching for six miles, creates a magical spectacle that has been enjoyed by generation after generation.
The greatest free light show does not come without a cost though, totalling over £2 million a year to stage. To keep the famous Blackpool Illuminations shining for many years to come, we rely on the generosity of the public for their kind donations. The contributions go straight into a fund, allowing us to create and invest in new features and sections, maintain our existing displays and to help with the rather large electricity bill!

Don’t forget – this year’s display will be shining for an extra two months from 30 August, 2024, to 5 January, 2025. The award-winning Lightpool Festival will also return with a spectacular programme of amazing light-based art installations from national and international artists over October half-term, running from 18-26 October.
