Charlie Barratt may only be six years old but already he is making a famous name for himself in the great British seaside resort of Blackpool.
Visitors venturing to the top of the world-famous Blackpool Tower will get to learn all they need to know about this incredible structure through the eyes and ears of Charlie.
The Poulton schoolboy has recorded a very special voice-over which will be played out to the hundreds of thousands of visitors who come to Blackpool Tower every week.
As guests make the 380-foot journey to tower top in just 69-seconds, they will listen to the special voice recording by Charlie telling them all they need to know about The Blackpool Tower, including never before heard facts and figures!
Charlie said: “I love Blackpool Tower and I cannot believe that it will now be my voice which will be heard every time visitors take a trip to the top.
“This is a dream come true for me and really very, very exciting!”
Charlie’s mum, Wendy, added: “Charlie has always loved The Blackpool Tower – ever since the first time we went there as a family when he was just four.
“He has a real fascination with structures and always wants to learn as much as possible about them.
“His real favourite is the top of Blackpool Tower. He absolutely loved going to Tower Top and wouldn’t stop talking about it when he came home. He was trying to download the signature tune which is played and started to record his own voice.
“It was then an approach was made to The Blackpool Tower team to see if there was any possibility Charlie could become a voice of The Tower!
“We could not believe it when we got the answer yes!”
Charlie has this week completed a full voice recording in a professional studio and from today, Thursday, it will be his voice which is heard as visitors make their way to the top of The Blackpool Tower!
Aaron Edgar, Senior Attractions Manager at Merlin Entertainments, Blackpool, said: “It is just fabulous to see young talent like Charlie. His interest and knowledge in The Blackpool Tower is amazing and it is our absolute pleasure to have the opportunity to use this voice recording for all of our visitors to hear as they travel to Tower Top.
“We expect him to be hugely popular – and who knows, Charlie could be the first of many new and young voices to be heard across all of our attractions in resort.”
Charlie’s family are well known in the seaside town. His mum, Wendy, previously choreographed the famous Legends Show in resort and his dad, James, has performed his Elton John tribute act for more than three decades in Blackpool.
