Illuminations fans at SEA LIFE Blackpool have stunned visitors by staging their own version of this week’s Lights switch-on ceremony . . . in miniature.
Team members at the popular seafront aquarium have built a special micro-stage out of LEGO and even found a miniature ‘Alfie Boe’ to pull the switch.
“We’ve christened him Alfie Boafish in tribute to our aquatic life,” explained Matthew Titherington, general manager at SEA LIFE Blackpool. “Following the wave and ocean theme, we thought he might sing ‘Bring Him Foam’.
“The aquarists have done a great job creating our own mini switch-on ceremony.
“We’re currently running a special LEGO Ocean Explorers trail at SEA LIFE and it seemed only fitting to build our own tiny switch-on stage out of LEGO. It’s always a great night and we wanted our marine life to be able to join in the fun too.”
The popular singer, who was born in Fleetwood, created a stir when the ‘local boy made good’ announced he would be pulling the switch for this year’s ceremony, which takes place on the resort’s famous Tower headland on Friday, August 31. Just further along the Promenade, visitors will be able to see tiny ‘Alfie Boafish’ performing his own aquatic version and also get a final chance to see the LEGO Ocean Explorers trail, which ends on September 8th.
