Blog / Events / Theatres & Shows / What's On Surprise, Surprise - Cilla: The Musical is a Hit! 18 October 2017 by Visit Blackpool Cilla: The Musical has come to Blackpool Winter Gardens this week. The nation’s favourite Scouse girl’s story is lovingly reimagined in a new, Bill Kenwright production. We went along to relive the sounds of the 60s in a glamorous evening, and we’re so glad that we did! Based on a hit ITV television series by Jeff Pope, Cilla: The Musical chronicles Cilla Black’s rise to the top from an office typist in the 1960s. The dreamy musical score is made up of the quintessential sound of the 60s, and of course features some of Cilla’s greatest hits, including Anyone Who Had a Heart, Alfie and Something Tells Me. The nostalgic fun doesn’t end there though! You’ll hear Twist and Shout by the Beatles, California Dreamin’ by The Mamas and The Papas’ and so much more. In the role of Cilla, is the sparkling Kara Lily Hayworth and makes for a fabulous leading lady. Kara deservedly secured the role after weeks of open auditions featuring thousands of hopefuls, and she really does sound like Cilla herself. As Executive Producer and Cilla’s son, Robert Willis, said: “She was the one my mum would have wanted!” A special mention needs to be made for the cast members performing as Cilla’s parents – they were hilarious! The gentleman playing Bobby was also magnificent. The entire cast are a joy to watch – no weak links! The costumes and sets were stunning, and all set changes were executed seamlessly. The show will run until Saturday, 21st of October. Tickets start from £27.50. To purchase tickets and for more information, click here!
