Blog / Theatres & Shows Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner . . . 31 August 2017 by Visit Blackpool If you could think of only one movie quote, what would you pick? For me, it has to be “Nobody puts Baby in the corner” which when said last night, blew the roof of the Winter Gardens. Dirty Dancing: On Stage returns to Blackpool this year and everyone in the audience seemed more than happy to see them come back! The production stayed true to the film even attempting certain parts of the movie that seemed near impossible to resonate in front of a live audience on a stage (the lake scene and driving back from the Sheldrake) and even though it can be a hard thing to live up to, adapting a film to the stage; especially one so well known and loved, it was everything you could wish for. Katie Eccles and Lewis Griffiths were the perfect Johnny and Baby, Lewis in particular was almost a double of Patrick Swayze and the ladies in the audience were not shy of letting him know that… I was worried that the songs wouldn’t be the same as the movie but how wrong was I?! The music was exactly the same as the film and partly sung live by two ensemble members who were brilliant and had a smaller role which included a love story between them that I wanted to know more about! And finally… the dancing. All of it was amazing! From the ensemble to Penny (incredible performance!) and Johnny’s mambo and of course the end dance made everyone get out their seats to start dancing in the aisles. This production of Dirty Dancing is energetic, funny and elevating! A must see for Dirty Dancing fans and more! (oh and the lift? INCREDIBLE)
