An Autism-Friendly Visit to Blackpool

We’ve recently received an e-mail off Heather Stanley, who signed off her message to us as ‘One Happy Parent’. Heather had just returned from an amazing holiday to Blackpool and wants to make other families aware how much fun they had.
Heather’s son (not pictured) has autism. Their Blackpool adventure was the first holiday that the family have enjoyed in a long time, as autism often leads to struggles when in a new environment.
The family booked into Alan and Jenny's Caravan in Fleetwood’s Haven Cala Gran. Specifically designed for children with autism, Heather and her family had a fabulous experience. There was so much entertainment to keep Heather’s son occupied, and he was so relaxed during his stay with the help of soothing, sensory lighting that he even slept in his own bedroom. Finally being able to have a relaxing family holiday was a real relief, and an absolute joy.
Beyond their fantastic accommodation, things just got better and better. Many Blackpool attractions offer discount for families that have children with autism and their carers. For information about what evidence you’ll need to provide, please click here. Blackpool Pleasure Beach also features fast track lines for children with autism so they don't have to line up in queues for very long. For children with autism, this is a much more relaxing way to enjoy the park, and Heather commented how wonderful the team were when working with her son.
Enjoying Blackpool’s many attractions works up a hearty appetite, and Heather’s family went along to Coral Island to eat, which is a must for anyone who loves pirates! Not only were the staff incredibly helpful, it was also brilliant to learn that children eat free at Coral Island with a paying adult.
Heather has already booked their second Blackpool holiday of 2017, and they are visiting us THREE times during 2018; what fantastic ambassadors for our town!
Heather’s closing comments in here e-mail were: “Well done Blackpool, you’re definitely an autism friendly holiday resort and we will be recommending it to other families that have children with autism.”
We’re delighted that Heather and her family had such a great time, and we can’t wait to welcome them back later in the season!
In addition to the attractions mentioned, Blackpool has plenty of further autism-friendly options to enjoy your visit in a way that works for your family.
The Sandcastle Waterpark also has a fantastic offer for guests with autism that you can learn about in this video.
