Pokémon GO: Where to catch ‘em all in Blackpool

Like it or not, Pokémon have once again taken the world by storm.

Since its official release in the UK, Pokémon GO has become a cultural phenomenon. The smartphone game encourages players to catch Pokémon using their cameras, and has had diehard fans searching locations far and wide for an opportunity to capture rare Pokémon.

Blackpool has been getting in on all the Poké-action too, with many of the beach resort’s famous locations playing host to a number of different creatures. If you’re heading to Blackpool in search of a Pikachu or a Charizard, here’s our definitive guide on how to get the most out of your game.

Safety first!

If you want to be the very best like no one ever was, always try to remain safe. Make sure you:

• Let people know where you’re going and when you’ll be back.
• Always watch where you’re going. Be extra careful around roads and be aware of traffic lights.
• If you’re going to play at night, bring someone with you (it’s twice as fun with friends anyway!).
• Don’t trespass and stay in public places which are well-lit.
• Stay hydrated. There’s plenty of food and drink selections around Blackpool to choose from.

SEA LIFE Blackpool

At SEA LIFE Blackpool, not only do you have the opportunity to see Horseshoe Crabs at Jurassic Seas and hold crabs in the interactive rockpool, but you’ll also have the chance to bump into a wild Krabby. The crab Pokémon has been spotted here along with Polywag and Venonat.

Blackpool Tower Dungeon

How far into the depths of Lancashire’s murky past will you go to catch ’em all? The Blackpool Tower Dungeon is a well-stocked Pokéstop to replenish your Pokéballs and add some great new items to your inventory. Dare you approach the grim reaper to carry on with your quest?

Blackpool Pleasure Beach

If you’re looking for somewhere to stock up on Pokéballs, then you can’t go wrong with Blackpool Pleasure Beach as it’s packed full of Pokéstops and Pokémon. Numerous people have reported spotting Pikachu here, perhaps the most popular Pokémon character of them all.

Make a day of it by enjoying the rides and attractions the whole family can enjoy, making time to stop at the Grand National sign, Dora’s World Voyage and the Big Pizza Food hall for all your Pokéstop needs.

The use of cameras and phones while on rides is strictly prohibited for safety reasons, so make sure you keep your devices safely stored away and only look for Pokémon before or after enjoying the rides.

The Blackpool Tower Eye

As you’d expect, the highest point in Blackpool has an abundance of flying Pokémon. Whilst it’s safe to say that no avid Pokémon trainer is really short of a Pidgey or Spearow, there’s something pretty cool about catching one whilst 380ft into the sky at The Blackpool Tower Eye.

The Blackpool Tower also happens to be a Pokémon gym, so after you’ve battled it out with your very best Pokémon, go and treat yourself to afternoon tea in The Blackpool Tower Ballroom as a well-deserved reward.

Madame Tussauds Blackpool 

It’s not just your favourite stars of the stage and screen that you get to meet at Madame Tussauds – there are plenty of Pokémon here! There are Pokémon of all kinds, from air Pokémon like Pidgey (who has been spotted cosying up to Simon Cowell on the sofa) to a wild Krabby near where Susan Boyle poses for selfies.

Blackpool Beach

Catch some sun and unwind during your Pokéwalk with a trip to Blackpool Beach, which has just been awarded Blue Flag status. Taking a walk alongside the three coastal piers, you’ll find plenty of water Pokémon including Horsea, Goldeen, Tentacool and even the one and only Squirtle.

In terms of Pokéstops, make sure you visit the Central Pier Plaque, the Big Wheel and the Memories Pillar.

Stanley Park and Blackpool Zoo

Nothing beats a good Pokéwalk in the park, so gear up and find which creatures are lurking around. There’s also plenty of Pokéstops here too, including the Stanley Park Lions, the Lakeside Promenade and the Blackpool Model Village.

Take your Pokéwalk one step further by visiting Blackpool Zoo. Not only will you have chance to see lions and penguins, but you’ll also be able to take advantage of the additional Pokéstops dotted around the zoo.
