What You Need To Know About Blackpool Air Show

The UK’s first official air show took place in this beach resort back in 1909. One hundred and seven years later, the Blackpool Air Show is one of the longest-running in the country.

Last year Blackpool Air Show included one of the last appearances from the Vulcan XH558 alongside the Red Arrows, British-based Breitling Wingwalkers, a Chinook helicopter and the RV8tors aerobatic display team. The organisers have promised that the full line up for 2016’s show will be even more impressive than last year.

Blackpool is still the perfect location to witness planes from past and present, and see jaw-dropping aerial displays.

When does it take place?

This year, Blackpool Air Show will take place on Sunday the 7th and Monday the 8th of August, and is expected to attract thousands of people. The majority of the action is will take place between the North Pier and Central Pier by the Tower Festival Headland.

Both the Sunday and Monday events are expected to to occur 13:30 – 16:00, although it’s essential to keep an eye on the VisitBlackpool website for updates as they come in.

What’s happening?

All your favourite planes will be back once again to showcase an array of breath-taking stunts and dazzling displays.

Already confirmed for both days of the event is a very special Battle of Britain routine that’ll involve the Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster Bomber planes – you really won’t believe your eyes.

Prepare to be amazed as the ever popular Red Arrows, particularly known for their jaw-dropping mid-air stunts, are confirmed for Sunday’s show and will grace the skies with a display that is set to astound and impress.

Who are the Red Arrows?

If you’ve never seen a Red Arrows display before, then you’re in for a real treat. The display team are known around the world for their sensational performances and you won’t be disappointed.

Since 1965, the Red Arrows have performed more than 4,660 times and when you see what they’re capable of doing in the sky – you’ll understand why they’re so popular!

The Red Arrows team consists of nine display pilots and has approximately 110 support staff, including engineering technicians, flight planners and safety equipment experts. Two of the nine display pilots are new to the team for 2016 and are determined to impress the crowds on Sunday.

Blackpool Air Show is absolutely free! Get the family together, bring a camera and be ready to gasp at the wind-walkers and their daring stunts.

Opening at 10am each day, the Blackpool Air Show Village will have plenty of food, drinks and desserts stalls to keep you refreshed and stocked up throughout the day whilst there will also be simulators, stands and charity organisations to keep you entertained throughout the day.

Parking spaces will be available throughout the centre of Blackpool too, with a car park right behind Pleasure Beach and South Shore.
