Sound on the Ground

Over 20,000 concert goers will be heading to Blackpool Cricket Club’s Stanley Park ground on Saturday 28^th and Sunday 29^th August.

Billed as Sound on the Ground, the 2-day music extravaganza opens with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra in a 'Last Night of the Proms' style concert performing iconic soundtracks and memorable Music from the Movies with film snippets featured on two big screens. In addition, Britain’s Got Talent winners Collabro will be performing together with the ‘Classical Crossover’ & ‘Synth-Pop’ string quartet girl band, Bond. In a first for Blackpool, the world-famous orchestra will wow the concert audience within the fantastic rose bowl ground of Blackpool Cricket Club.  

Following the sophistication of Saturday’s concert, the iconic sound of the 90’s Manchester music scene is replicated by the Hacienda Classical featuring Graeme Park alongside the Manchester Camerata together with Inner City, Robin S, Crystal Waters, Black Box and support DJ’s adding to an authentic mix of great hits of those great Madchester days.  

Cricket Club’s Chairman, Dave Cresswell adds “The club has worked extremely hard over the last 2 years to bring such a high quality and entertaining 2 day concert to Blackpool and the Fylde Coast.  The local council, licensing, police and fire authorities together with numerous organisations have been greatly supportive of our plans. The spectacle of the world famous Royal Philharmonic Orchestra together with the 80s and 90’s music of the iconic Hacienda Classical playing at Blackpool’s cricket ground is something that I’m sure people will not want to miss. 

Early demand for tickets has already surpassed the expectations of the club and it is looking very likely that both days will be a sell-out. This is great news for the local economy with many out-of-town visitors expected to make a weekend of it and of course locals benefiting from the opportunity to see top class performers on their doorstep. 

Cresswell adds, “Local cricket and sport in general has had a tough time over recent years, especially the last 12 months with lockdown restrictions. It is important the club plans and generates financial growth for future development of the club both in terms of facilities and to increase the take up of cricket and other sporting activities in the area. Every penny of profit from this music weekend will be ploughed back into the club for future ground infrastructure and sports development for the benefit of members, the local community, schools and young people of Blackpool and the Fylde Coast. With the massive re-development of the club presently taking place, we have already been able to continue our status as a County Cricket out-ground for Lancashire this will ensure first-class cricket being played on our ground in the future years.”
