Join the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and make your mark in the fight for every heartbeat this autumn, by cycling 52 miles from city to sea.
Entries are now open for the third Manchester to Blackpool Night Ride, supported by Santander, which is taking place on Saturday 28th September 2013.
The event – the biggest charity night riding event in the North of England – last year saw 1,000 riders take part and use their pedal power to raise over £120,000 for the nation’s heart charity. Money raised from the ride goes towards the Mending Broken Hearts Appeal, funding vital research that could help to bring hope to millions of people worldwide by finding a cure for heart failure.
Starting from the Trafford Centre from 11pm on Saturday 28th September 2013, riders leave the city behind as they pedal their way through starlit lanes towards the Blackpool illuminations which lead them to the sea for sunrise.
Ali Rulton, Event Organiser for the BHF, said: “We love organising the Manchester to Blackpool Night Ride each year. There is such an appetite for cycling in the North West and we always get a great response from the public for this event, both in regard to sign ups and support. Last year was our most successful year to date so we’re expecting 2013 to be even bigger and better.”
British Cycling, who are affiliated with the BHF and pledge £4 from every new member registration to the charity, are also encouraging riders to saddle up. Jill Puttnam, National Operations Manager for the cycling governing body, said: “Since the Tour de France and the Olympics last year, we have seen an unprecedented number of people take to their bikes, whether it is for work, recreation or sport.
“Cycling is a great way to have fun and get fit and healthy at the same time and by getting involved with the Manchester to Blackpool Ride, you’ll be doing something challenging and inspiring for a great cause too.
“With more people taking to their bikes than ever before, we hope to see the BHF’s Manchester to Blackpool Night Ride hit record numbers this year.”
Registration is now open for the ride and entrants are encouraged to sign up now to avoid disappointment, as places are strictly limited. Entry fees are £30 and individuals or teams can enter. All abilities are welcome, although training beforehand is strongly recommended.
