Blackpool audiences are in for a treat as theatre producer Bill Kenwright is set to bring seven of his biggest productions to the Opera House and Grand Theatre between July and December, featuring some of musical theatre’s biggest stars.
Opening the season of shows is Save the Last Dance for Me at the Blackpool Opera House from Monday 15 until Saturday 20 July. This will be followed by Soul Sister (29 July – 3 Aug), Dreamboats and Petticoats starring Mark Wynter (23 – 28 Sept), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat starring Ian ‘H’ Watkins from Steps (1 – 4 Oct), Cabaret starring Will Young (14 – 19 Oct), Blood Brothers (21 – 26 Oct) and culminating in the festive smash hit Scrooge the Musical with legendary performer Tommy Steele (16 – 21 Dec).
SAVE THE LAST DANCE FOR ME – MONDAY 15 UNTIL SATURDAY 20 JULY @ BLACKPOOL OPERA HOUSE
Save the Last Dance for Me is a brand new musical from the writers, producers and creators of the music rock’n’roll hit Dreamboats and Petticoats.
Featuring the music of legendary American writing partners Doc Pomus and Mort Schuman who are responsible for writing some of the 60’s most classic pop songs who penned the songs A Teenager in Love; Sweets for my Sweet; Turn Me Loose; Here I Go Again; Little Sister; His Latest Flame; Suspicion; Can’t Get Used to Losing You; Save the Last Dance For Me with more than 500 songs between 1958 and 1965.
Set in the golden age of Rock ’n’ Roll Save the Last Dance for Me is written by the legendary comic writing duo Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran – they are best known for creating the memorable TV comedy hits Birds of a Feather and Goodnight Sweetheart.
SOUL SISTER – MONDAY 29 JULY UNTIL SATURDAY 3 AUGUST @ BLACKPOOL OPERA HOUSE
Nominated for Best New Musical at the 2013 Olivier Awards smash-hit show Soul Sister, the new musical inspired by the music, life and times of Ike and Tina Turner, caused a sensation at the West End’s Savoy Theatre with rave reviews and standing ovations!
Soul Sister features all the classic Tina Turner hits including What’s Love Got to Do with It, Proud Mary, Private Dancer River Deep Mountain High and, of course, Simply the Best. The story follows the highs, lows, passions and heartbreak of Ike and Tina as their careers soared whilst their marriage crumbled, ultimately leading to Tina being catapulted to superstardom and heralded as one of the greatest solo artists of all time.

DREAMBOATS AND PETTICOATS – MONDAY 23 UNTIL SATURDAY 28 SEPTEMBER @ BLACKPOOL GRAND
Dreamboats and Petticoats is a whirl round the jukebox of one of the most dynamic musical decades and stars musical legend Mark Wynter – fresh from his celebrated run in the show at London’s Wyndham’s Theatre last winter – who is set to perform classic hits Venus In Blue Jeans, Go Away Little Girl and It’s Almost Tomorrow for the first time on tour in 50 years.
In 1961 emotions run high as young musicians Norman and Bobby compete to win a national song writing competition, and, more importantly, the attentions of the gorgeous Sue. But when Bobby discovers that shy Laura is no slouch on the piano, love, and rock ‘n’ roll fame beckon.
Featuring the classic tracks Let’s Dance, To Know Him Is To Love Him, Shaking All Over, Bobby’s Girl, Little Town Flirt, Only Sixteen, Runaround Sue, Happy Birthday Sweet 16, Let It Be Me, Let’s Twist Again, and many more from music’s golden era.
JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT – TUE 1 – SAT 5 OCTOBER @ BLACKPOOL OPERA HOUSE
Fresh from the hit television series STEPS: On the Road Again and a subsequent 20 date sold out Arena Tour, Ian ‘H’ Watkins is delighted to reprise the role of Joseph which he first played in London’s West End in 2005.
Having garnered sensational reviews, Bill Kenwright’s production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s sparkling family musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat continues to enjoy huge success across the country with standing ovations at every performance and is in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest running touring musical of all time.
This colourful retelling of the biblical story about Joseph, his eleven brothers and the coat of many colours sings out to young and old alike with a score which is crammed wall to wall with hits – including Jacob and Sons, Close Every Door and Any Dream Will Do.

Direct from his award nominated performance as Emcee in London’s West End, internationally celebrated singer/songwriter Will Young reprises his role in Rufus Norris’ acclaimed production of Cabaret.
Cabaret features show-stopping choreography, dazzling costumes and some of the most iconic songs in musical theatre including ‘Money Makes the World Go Round’, ‘Two Ladies’ ‘Maybe This Time’ and of course ‘Cabaret’. The production turns WeimarBerlin of 1931 into a sassy, sizzling haven of decadence. And at its dark heart are the notorious Emcee and sassy Sally Bowles, who perform nightly at the infamous Kit Kat Klub.
BLOOD BROTHERS – MONDAY 21 UNTIL SATURDAY 26 OCTOBER @ BLACKPOOL OPERA HOUSE
Hailed as one of the best musicals of all time, Blood Brothers has triumphed across the globe. Scooping up no less than four awards for best musical in London and seven Tony Award nominations on Broadway, Blood Brothers is simply unmissable and unbeatable. This epic tale of Liverpool life ran in London’s West End for 24 years and has been touring the UK since 1995.
Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving story of twin boys separated at birth, only to be reunited, by a twist of fate and a mother’s haunting secret. The memorable score includes A Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True.
SCROOGE THE MUSICAL – MONDAY 16 UNTIL SATURDAY 21 DECEMBER @ BLACKPOOL OPERA HOUSE
Following a run at the London Palladium that catapulted him into the record books, legendary performer Tommy Steele returns as Ebenezer Scrooge in Leslie Bricusse’s spectacular musical extravaganza Scrooge the Musical.
Based on Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol, Scrooge the Musical features stunning sets and costumes, specially created illusions by Paul Kieve, the special effects ‘magician’ behind the Harry Potter films and a fantastic musical score featuring the Oscar-nominated hit Thank You Very Much.
