Nathan Clarke, Associate Director of the London 2012 Olympics closing ceremony and Creative Director of BBC’s The Voice 2013 is the choreographer of the Grand Theatre’s Summer Season!
The Grand Theatre’s two sensational summer season shows, Step Back In Time and Ooh La La, have both been choreographed by the highly experienced and established choreographer Nathan Clarke. Nathan was Creative Director of BBC’s The Voice and Associate Director of the Olympics 2012 and Paralympics closing ceremonies.
Nathan explains, “During summer last year I was lucky enough to work on both closing ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics. I was an Associate Director and worked side by side with the incredible director Kim Gavin.
I have worked closely with Kim for the last 7 years and was honoured to join him on this project. We began 12 months before the actual ceremony date in August, workshopping and creating ideas with the assistance of 20 of London’s best professional dancers.
It was incredibly tough and long but personally very rewarding.
I had the opportunity to work with some of my biggest idols, from Annie Lennox, Rhianna, Jay-Z, to Jessie J, Tinnie Tempa, Brian May and Coldplay to name a few. It was an experience I don’t think I will ever top. To sit back on the night and watch some of my choreography performed by such talent from both professional dancers and inspiring volunteers was enough to make my heart swell.”
Originally from Australia, Nathan began dancing at a very young age. He has an exceptional resume as a dancer including performances with Leona Lewis, Take That, Alexandra Burke, Michael Buble, Alicia Dixon, Pixie Lott, Elton John and many more.
Nathan has worked on the creation of Take That’s Progress live European and UK tour, Katherine Jenkins Believe tour, The Nolan Sisters tour and Darcy Bussel’s Viva la Diva tour.
Nathan is equally experienced in choreographing shows for Cruise Ships, Theatre and Cabaret. His film and television credits include, Channel 5’s Don’t Stop Believing, Comic Relief, BBC Children In Need, and The Royal Variety Performance.
Something different and highly unique is coming to the Grand Theatre this summer. Two stunning, high quality shows Ooh La La and Step Back In Time, both featuring a plethora of international performing stars and hosted by comic legends Cannon and Ball.
Nathan said about the two shows,
“The audiences that come to see Ooh la la and Step back in time in Blackpool during the summer can expect to see two amazingly different shows with fresh and modern choreography. I have tried to keep Step back in time truthful to the roots that its musical journey takes, including specific choreography synonymous with the 60’s,70’s and 80’s. Audiences will also see exciting hip hop and street influences.
Ooh La La on the other hand is lead by very sexy, sassy and sultry choreography. It relies heavily on the beauty and form of our cast, whilst also remaining classic and stylised.”
Step Back In Time is a high quality production celebrating the careers of some of the world’s greatest entertainers. This fast-paced show highlights some of the greatest musical artists of all time; Elvis, Queen, the Bee Gees, Michael Jackson and more.
Step into summer and experience this dance in the aisle, toe-tapping, non-stop show for fans young and old…it’s perfect for the family!
Ooh La La is the seductive French burlesque revue show that brings you the very best in Parisian style entertainment. Ooh La La is hosted by and stars the hilarious comic legends, Cannon & Ball and some of the world best performers. Ooh La La is jam-packed with lavish costumes, non-stop entertainment and showcases award-winning acts from around the world.
