How about this for a waterbed with a difference?! Aquarists at SEA LIFE Blackpool are inviting youngsters to come and spend the night with their pals at the popular attraction.
They can’t promise their young overnight visitors the chance to sleep on the actual sea bed – but it is the next best thing!
And, as these youngsters testing out the new offer discovered, the sleepover experience offers fantastic views of SEA LIFE Blackpool’s popular Ocean Window and Ocean Tunnel, as well as its amazing collection of underwater creatures – including its awe-inspiring sharks.
A whole range of packages are available for groups looking to ‘sleep with the fishes’, including tours of the aquarium, informative talks and interactive sessions, before they get their heads down in their sleeping bags for the night.
The trip can also include badge-making, a quiz and the use of an adventure play centre. And there’s even the opportunity to touch some of the aquarium’s rock pool favourites and Rainforest Ranger Table creatures.
The youngsters get cookies and milk before lights out and tuck into a breakfast in the morning, but remember, SEA LIFE Blackpool’s incredible creatures are early risers, so there’s no chance of a lie-in!
Sleepover groups will experience more than 50 dazzling displays and over 2,500 spectacular aquatic creatures, including tropical sharks, colourful reef fish, rays and sea horses.
Matthew Titherington, general manager at SEA LIFE Blackpool, said: “We’re always looking to deliver exciting, new experiences and the new sleepover packages we’ve introduced offer a brilliant and memorable adventure for kids.
“It is the ultimate sleepover, our overnight guests will never forget their experience and the chance to ‘sleep with the fishes’ at SEA LIFE Blackpool. Our sleepovers are the ideal birthday treat with a difference and something we believe groups, such as Rainbows, Cubs, Beavers, Brownies, Guides and Scouts, will love.”
He added: “We invited some local children from to come and test the sleepover and they went away really excited by the whole experience.”
There’s also a serious message about education and conservation too. Aquarists help children to understand more about the creatures and their habitats, as part of SEA LIFE Blackpool’s ‘breed, rescue, protect’ campaign. The Sea Life Trust raises funds and campaigns all over the world to conserve marine creatures and to protect their habitats from threats, such as plastic pollution and intensive fishing. This includes marine protected areas and ground-breaking schemes to prevent creatures being caught up in fishing nets.
