Dog A.I.D. supports the Festival of Working and Assistance Dogs

Dog Assistance in Disability (Dog A.I.D.), a charity which helps people with disabilities train their pet dog to Assistance Dog level, is pleased to be exhibiting and carrying out a demo at the inaugural Festival of Working and Assistance Dogs.  This unique event takes place on Sunday 7^th February 2016 at the Blackpool Winter Gardens.

Organised by Fylde Coast Guide Dogs, the free of charge event will bring together a wide variety of canine charities supporting people with compromised ability.  There will be arena programmes devoted to showcasing puppy and working dog training, including ‘a day in the life of an assistance dog’.

Dog A.I.D. will have a stand at the event where people can find out more about how the Charity operates, who it helps and how members of the community can get involved.  There will be a demonstration team showing just how an assistance dog can change the life of a person with disabilities both from a physical and emotional perspective.

Chair comments, “This event is an exciting celebration of working and assistance dogs that we are pleased to be involved with.  It is a great opportunity to have the majority of assistance dog charities in one place so people can learn how to understand and identify them, as well as how each one differs.”

Dog A.I.D. was established in the 1990’s and there are currently 47 fully qualified dogs throughout the country.  Training takes from 18 months to two years with both dog and owner receiving specialist education from a network of trainers based around the country.  The dog owner is given all the tools required to constantly reinforce training methods learnt and also continue to teach their dog new cues and tasks independently.
