THRILLER LIVE at Blackpool Grand Theatre

When you think of a musical based on a singer or group you generally expect to see one of two things: a story about the singer/band featuring their greatest a hits, or an original script with the particular music used to form the narrative…   THRILLER LIVE is neither, and nor does it need to be.

There is no story and there is no clever usage of song titles, just hit after hit of some of the greatest recordings in motown, disco and pop history. There is the occasional break from the music when you are told some statistics about Michael’s incredible career and a few moments when the audience are encouraged to participate, but this really is a show where nothing else matters but the music and the fantastic choreography.

Most of the songs are sung live by a fantastic cast, in particular Cleopatra Higgins and lead vocalist Rory Taylor who stole the show. The band are fabulous and they do make you appreciate why Michael’s music still sells millions of records even today. The dancers looked the part and gave everything to the high energy routines that have dazzled audiences worldwide and when watching Sean Christopher’s impersonation of the King of Pop you could be mistaken, just for a moment, to believe you are watching the real thing.

With the Blackpool Grand Theatre being chosen as the opening venue before a thirty venue UK tour, THRILLER LIVE is an excellent night out that will make you leave singing and when you get home (or to the car in my case); searching your music library for your favourite Michael Jackson album to listen to all over again…
