by Visit Blackpool
Stuck for ideas as what to do in Blackpool this March? Well, from gigs to plays, football to wine-tasting, there’s plenty to keep you occupied. Here’s our pick of the bunch:
The Overtones
To celebrate the release of their new album Saturday Night At The Movies, The Overtones are embarking on a countrywide tour, which sees them bringing their masterful five-part harmonies to the Blackpool Opera House. The new release features covers of some of the most iconic movie songs, including Oh, Pretty Woman and Do You Love Me?. The quintet will be sure to work in songs from their back catalogue, top-ten albums Higher and Good Ol’ Fashioned Loved. You can read more about the event here. The Opera House, 14 March, Tickets £21.50-38.50.
Eternal Love
The English Touring Theatre are bringing their revival of Howard Brenton’s Eternal Love to the Grand Theatre in mid March. The play was originally performed at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre to critical acclaim in 2006 and 2007, under its original title of In Extremis. David Sturzaker and Jo Herbet will star as Abelard and Heloise, a philosophy teacher and his student, who begin an ill-fated affair that ends in scandal. Matching contemporary language to terrific live music, it’s a highly entertaining take on a legendary love story. Grand Theatre, 11-15 March, Tickets £8.50-20.00.
Wine & Cheese Tasting, Empress Grill Room
If your idea of a good time is something a little more gastronomic, then allow us to draw your attention to a wine and cheese evening at the Winter Garden’s The Empress Grill Room. The event will be hosted by the Lancashire Wine School and attendees will learn how to taste wine as well as the principles of matching food with wine. There will be tasting of 6 quality wines with 7 styles of cheese, and a guided tour of the Winter Gardens. Empress Grill Room, 26 March, Tickets £26.50.
Miles Kane
Touring material from his two albums, Colour of the Trap and Don’t Forget Who You Are, Miles Kane will be peddling his own brand of mod-inspired indie-rock at The Winter Gardens. The former co-frontman of the Last Shadow Puppets and ex-frontman of The Rascals had an NME nomination for the best solo artist in 2013 and his most recent release debuted at no. 8. The show has already sold out but that doesn’t mean that the odd ticket won’t be available online through eBay or Gumtree or on the night. Winter Gardens, 15 March.
Leicester v Blackpool
Alright, it’s not strictly in Blackpool but there’ll be plenty of places to catch the game around the city. At the time of writing, Leicester are riding high at the top of the championship, eight points clear of nearest rivals Burnley. Despite a bad run-in last year the Foxes are determined to continue their form until the season’s end and secure promotion. This will be make it the biggest test for Blackpool in a month where they face several of their competitors in the bottom half of the table. If you’re looking for home games, the fixtures against similarly-placed Millwall and Bournemouth are likely to be action-packed. 15 March, Tickets £7.00-28.00
