SEA LIFE Blackpool launches search for first ever young Rockpool Ranger. The lucky competition winner will be the first voiceover and hands-on young expert at SEA LIFE Blackpool
Budding marine experts will have the chance to become SEA LIFE Blackpool’s first ever Rockpool Ranger, championing sea creatures’ protection and raising awareness of endangered species.
The search, which launches today will give one lucky winner the opportunity to be the aquarium’s official ‘voice’ for its much-loved Rockpool area, where visitors can get up close with the creatures that populate rock pools in the wild.
From starfish to urchins, and many more, the Rockpool at SEA LIFE Blackpool is home to more than 2,500 different species that are found on our coasts, in small pools of water when the tide goes out.
As part of their role, the new Rockpool Ranger will help teach visitors of all ages about how the aquarium supports the local environment and what vital work is being done to protect and rescue rare creatures.
Scott Blacker, head aquarist at SEA LIFE Blackpool, said: “Protecting ocean wildlife is the most important thing to us at SEA LIFE Blackpool, and we hope that children with a passion for sea creatures and their conservation will apply to be our first ever Rockpool Ranger and help us raise awareness and spread the message.”
SEA LIFE Blackpool carries out several projects that address issues facing marine ecology, including beach cleans on Blackpool Promenade, where volunteers can help to remove the tons of waste polluting our seas and oceans.
Taking place on Saturdays throughout the year, volunteers sign up to help SEA LIFE Blackpool clear plastic bags, old phone covers, disposable cutlery, drinks bottles, batteries and other waste products from the beach to stop it from reaching the sea, where it can cause harm to marine birds, fish and other creatures.
And SEA LIFE Blackpool’s new Rockpool Ranger will play a crucial role in driving forward the attraction’s goal of protecting our oceans and the creatures which live there.
Anyone who thinks they have what it takes is asked to submit a short video of themselves talking about why they are perfect for the role and why protecting endangered marine life is important to them.
The lucky winner will then be invited to record the voiceover for the Rockpool area section at SEA LIFE Blackpool, which is home to over 2,500 sea creatures.
The voiceover will be played to the thousands of visitors who come to SEA LIFE Blackpool every year, educating them about conservation and marine life.
Scott added: “We’re looking forward to seeing some brilliant entries from young marine enthusiasts and can’t wait to name SEA LIFE Blackpool’s official resident Rockpool Ranger!”
Submit a short video via social media with the hashtag #RockPoolRanger and tag @SEALIFEBlackpool to enter!
The closing date for entries is noon on April 25. To find out more about how SEA LIFE Blackpool is supporting the world’s oceans visit SEA LIFE Blackpool.
