Avenue Q – This summer’s most desirable address
The Grand Theatre, Blackpool announces the first of its Summer productions the Broadway and West End smash-hit AVENUE Q.
Avenue Q was the winner of the 2004 TONY AWARD® for BEST NEW MUSICAL, BEST BOOK OF A MUSICAL and BEST ORIGINAL SCORE!
Avenue Q is a laugh-out-loud musical that tells the story of a recent college graduate named Princetion who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. There, he meets Kate Monster (the girl next door), Rod (the Republican), Trekkie Monster (the internet sexpert), Lucy the Slut and other colourful types who help Princeton finally discover his true purpose in life!
Avenue Q will be directed and choreographed by Cressida Carré, who returns to Sell ADoor Theatre Company having previously Choreographed Spring Awakening and Seussical.
Director and Choreographer Cressida Carré said of the show “Avenue Q is wacky and fun, appealing to teenagers and adults alike with its musical‘tongue in cheek’ take on Sesame Street. For me it is something a bit different and thechallenge will be not only directing the actors but also the puppets! ”
David Hutchinson, Artistic Director added “This is our third major musical production following Spring Awakening in 2011 andSeussical in 2012 & 2013. We are delighted to be opening this critically acclaimedproduction at our new London partner, the Greenwich Theatre, prior to a regional touracross the UK. I have every faith that this parable, which so cleverly pokes fun at theissues young people face going into adulthood, will strike a cord with audiences up and down the country.”
“Absolutely brilliant. We nearly died laughing.” Absolute Radio
“The most lovable musical in the West End. Monstrously good.” – Thelondonpaper
