The UK’s most popular seaside resort has launched its 2014 Destination Guide – Blackpool NOW – 158m high from the very top of The Blackpool Tower.
And now people across the UK and further afield are being urged to see how high they can get the Guide.
Whether you want to take it to the top of Ben Nevis, the London Eye, New York’s Empire State Building or even up some ladders when you clean your windows, it really doesn’t matter.
The team behind the Guide at VisitBlackpool want to see how many Blackpool Towers high the Guide can get between now and June.
All you need to do is get a copy of Blackpool NOW, take it out for the day and get snapping with your camera. If it proves too difficult to take the Guide with you, you can always download it at www.visitblackpool.com and take a pic of you reading it on your phone or tablet.
All photos will be shared on social media and a winner will be picked at random to win a fantastic Blackpool prize of a three-night stay at the resort’s Hilton Hotel for four people as well as a selection of top attraction tickets.
Coun Graham Cain, Blackpool Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure, said: “The 2014 Blackpool Destination Guide is packed full of great ideas for the perfect family holiday in the UK’s most popular seaside resort.
“By asking people to take the Guide to an unusual spot and snap a photo it will really help spread the word about what a great resort Blackpool is.
“I have no doubt there will be some great entries to this competition and I am looking forward to seeing just how high we can take Blackpool NOW!”
Blackpool NOW was launched from the top of The Blackpool Tower with the aid of Tower Maintenance Team Leader Paul Hulley.
When Paul first started at The Tower in 1984 he was part of a team of Stickmen – the people responsible for the upkeep of the structure.
Stickmen have worked on The Tower since it was built in 1894 and were responsible for the actual construction and subsequently maintenance. Today the majority of this role is carried out by independent contractors MP Marine.
Paul, who celebrates his 30th year at The Tower this year, said he was delighted to be able to help launch the Guide.
He said: “Nothing beats standing out on The Tower and seeing the magnificent views over Blackpool. This is definitely the perfect place to launch Blackpool Now and I’m delighted I was able to help out.
“It can get a bit hairy up there sometimes when you’re working but it is certainly worth it with those views and knowing that you are responsible for one of the country’s most iconic structures.
“To be doing my job while enjoying views of Wales and the Lake District, while being in Blackpool, is brilliant.”
