Halloween Spooktacular
29 October 2015
by Visit Blackpool
This Halloween, Grundy Art Gallery will be hosting an illuminating performance for Halloween conceived by Manchester-based artist Mike Chavez-Dawson.
The artist will host performance tours of the Grundy’s blockbuster light exhibition Sensory Systems, along with a supporting cast of actors. Chavez-Dawson has worked with Coronation Street set designer Tracey Cliffe to make special costumes which will light up during the bewitching performances.
Adopting a theatrical persona, Chavez-Dawson and his fellow performers will tease out themes from the hit exhibition, elaborating on them in a playful, imaginative and fun way.
The Grundy Art Gallery’s Halloween spectacular is another quality offer to compliment the amazing Illuminations and LightPool project.
It’s free, interactive and family friendly and visitors can take advantage of the extended opening hours during the Illuminations, LightPool projections and Brilliance performances.
Grundy Curator Richard Parry said: “We’re very excited to be hosting these performances by celebrated artist Mike Chavez-Dawson – with the special lighting-up costumes by Coronation Street designer Tracey Cliffe, the event promises to truly chime with the spirit of Halloween.”
The performance tours will be delivered at 3pm and 6pm and each tour will last approximately 20 minutes, providing a unique and unexpected insight into the light art on display at the Grundy. Visitors are being told to anticipate a spectacular if slightly surreal experience.
This event is conceived for the Grundy’s exhibition Sensory Systems, which is admission free and runs until 8 November as part of LightPool at Blackpool Illuminations. Tickets for the performance cost £4 and can be purchased on the door or in advance via the gallery. Bookings can be made via Eventbrite at https://performancetour.eventbrite.co.uk
