The fun day, taking place at Blackpool Sports Centre and on Stanley Park, will allow youngsters to try out activities at the new high ropes course, as well as making a splash with a brand new range of water based activities on the boating lake.
Activities start at 10am, with the last session beginning at 3pm.
The £1 activities will include:
- The ‘gladiator challenge’. Based on the high ropes, competitors have to climb a number of obstacles, including moving tyres, rope ladders and swing ladders to be the first to the top of the course.
- The ‘crate stack’. Also based at the high ropes, challengers have to be the first to create a skyscraper of boxes up to the top of the high ropes course.
- Kayaking. 45 minutes of Exploration around the lake in Stanley park learning the basic skills and balance to enable you to move your boat around and have a go at our slalom challenge.
- Canoeing. Two to a boat and a chance to go and explore and learn the basics. Gain control over the canoe and develop team working skills, to manoeuvre the canoe around our super challenge course. We can raft canoes together for a greater family experience.
- Raft building. Working in a team can you design, build and get afloat your own raft from barrels, poles and ropes? This will test your skills of rope and seamanship. Once built can you survive our challenge course.
Everybody who completes all four £1 events will also be entered in to a prize draw to win a free pass to take on the full high ropes course, or have a free family kayaking session.
Cllr Graham Cain, Cabinet Secretary for Blackpool Council, said: “Most schools will be breaking up for the summer this week and families will be looking for a fun way to get them outside and in to the fresh air.
“This is a great way for us to showcase the many ways that we can help keep children active throughout the year and will be a great introduction for those people who haven’t yet had the chance to have a go on our fantastic new high ropes course.
“I’d urge everybody to come along in to the park on Wednesday and try out at least one new activity.
“As well as the sporting activities on offer, people can come along and enjoy the many other events at the park too.
“Whether that is enjoying the spectacular gardens, hiring out a sports pitch or picking up a ticket for the first class cricket taking place at the same time, there is something for everybody.
“I hope to see the park jam-packed ahead of what should be a fantastic summer for getting outdoors.”
A number of other activities such as orienteering and geo-caching, team building activities, special cycling sessions and BMX lessons will also be available free of charge.
The new high ropes, low ropes and zip wire will also be available throughout the day at the normal prices, which start from £8 per person.
