YOUR CHANCE TO HELP MAKE A ‘SCENE~O~SONIC SOUND SYSTEM’ FOR THE SPAREPARTS ART PARADE AT TRAM SUNDAY
8 June 2015
by Visit Blackpool
Ahead of the ever popular Fleetwood Festival of Transport, The Mount Pavilion is set to become home to artist Jon Large from Manchester. Jon’s new residency will create an exciting and original new float to take part in the SpareParts arts parade during the afternoon on Tram Sunday.
Jon will be making the float based on an early 20th century fairground organ using its traditional shape, with a Fleetwood inspired contemporary twist, to create the ‘Scene-O-Sonic Sound System’ to be towed behind ‘Tonefloat’ – a musical milk float also taking part in the parade.
As part of the residency there is the chance for you to get involved in constructing and crafting the float with Saturday open workshops at The Mount Pavilion, starting on 13 June. During the workshops people will be able to try their hand at making puppet characters, automata, kinetic props and sets, simple electronics and musical instruments – giving everyone a chance to get involved in some way.
Speaking about the residency Jon said:
“I’m really looking forward to coming to Fleetwood and working with the community to create the new float to feature in the SpareParts parade on Tram Sunday. In order to give the scenic sound system a really strong Fleetwood vibe it’s important that as many people as possible come along and get involved – so whatever your skills I’d love to have you aboard on this musical journey!”
Michael Trainor, Artistic Director at LeftCoast, added:
“Having worked with Jon before I’m really intrigued to see what he and the people of Fleetwood create during the residency. The SpareParts parade was a real high point in last year’s festival so I can’t wait to see what creative craziness is in store for the people of Fleetwood this time around.”
As well as taking part in the parade, Tonefloat and the Scene-O-Sonic Sound System will also be on display at SpareParts at Fleetwood Festival of Transport giving people the chance to create their own music using the vehicles and have a good look at what has been created by Jon and the community.
Drop-in workshops take place every Saturday from 1-4pm starting on 13 June and running until 18 July (excluding 20 June). Those who attend the Saturday workshops can also get involved with other opportunities to work on the float by booking in advance with Jon.
The SpareParts Parade at Fleetwood Festival of Transport will start from 3pm at Memorial Park and will go via Lord Street, Bold Street and conclude on the Esplanade.
