Britain’s best loved tenor visits hmv to sign copies of his new album ‘Serenata’.
Tue 18th Nov – 12:00pm – hmv Blackpool
Meaning ‘to sing in your honour’, Alfie Boe’s eagerly anticipated new album ‘Serenata’ is a beautiful collection of romantic Italian songs, perfectly suited to his distinctive voice. These popular nostalgic tunes not only remind us of their extraordinary impact, but also why he has become the biggest-selling British tenor of today. Alfie displays his incredible versatility with charming moments of high intensity and passion alongside gentle, lilting high spirits. Amongst others, he records a stunning version of the million-selling 1958 hit ‘Volare’, a breath-taking version of ‘My Heart Is Yours’ from the Academy Award-winning ‘Il Postino’ score alongside ‘Mambo Italiano’ (Rosemary Clooney and Dean Martin, 1954), ‘Arrivederci, Roma’ (Perry Como, 1955), ‘Mamma’ (Connie Francis, 1960) and ‘Buona Sera’ (Louis Prima, 1958). Alfie explains the choice of material for the album: “I’m always drawn back to this area of music, I think because its spontaneous. The songs themselves are simple but about the biggest and most important things: love, loss, journeying away, coming home, family, living life. In Italy, this music is just in the people, a part of everyday life. It inspires the young and old, to dance and sing together – it makes a bridge between generations. And it reminds me of sharing happy times together with family and friends. Singing these songs makes me feel a part of something good.”
Born in Fleetwood, Lancashire, where he dreamed of a singing career from a young age, Alfie has led the cast of ‘Les Miserables’, conquered the world’s most prestigious opera stages, stolen the show at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert, sold-out UK tours and achieved four top ten albums with platinum sales in the UK. His recent accomplishments have included his best-selling autobiography ‘My Story’, a role as music-hall singer Richard Chapman in ITV’s ‘Mr Selfridge’ and a fellowship awarded by the Royal College of Music. Alfie is embarking on a UK arena tour beginning on November 29th at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena in support of ‘Serenata’.
