FIDO FASHIONISTAS TAKE TO THE PROM FOR ILLUMINATING PARADE
11 September 2014
by Visit Blackpool
Blackpool promenade is set for a world first on 20 September when pooches and their owners take to the runway for an Illuminated Canine Fashion Show with a difference – all the dogs will be four legged light installations. Starting at Jubilee Gardens opposite Gynn Square the show will see flashing, scintillating and pulsing pooches parade along North Promenade from 7pm, glowing as they go.
Not only that but there is the chance for the most creatively dressed pet to be crowned LumiDogs Champion 2014 and scoop prizes including a Vac4Life from Vets4Pets Warbreck (free booster vaccinations at the surgery for the rest of their life.) Two runners up prizes will also be up for grabs courtesy of Pets at Home.
Michael Trainor, Artistic Director of LeftCoast, said: “We’re delighted to bring this world first to Blackpool as part of the Illuminations Season. The area has a lot of dog owners so we felt this was the perfect way to get people out of their cars and experiencing the famous lights in a unique way – it’s barking but brilliant.”
Caroline Ross, Joint Venture Partner and Veterinary Surgery at Blackpool Warbreck Vets4Pets who are sponsoring prizes for the event, said: “LumiDogs is in the spirit of Blackpool, and a great way to have fun with your dog, so we’re thrilled to be supporting the event with some prizes. I hope lots of people take part in the workshops and I’m really excited to see the parade.”
Throughout August LeftCoast have been offering people the chance to take part in free workshops to decorate their four legged friends in lights and make them part of the world famous illuminations. This unique opportunity for residents to put their star pet centre stage and explore their creativity, also gives them the chance to illuminate their dog with help from professional artists.
Dogs and their overexcited owners will be pleased to know there is still a chance to decorate their dog in lights at free workshops on Saturday 13 September from 1-4pm at Stanley Park (near the café) or Sunday 20 September from 1-4pm at Jubilee Gardens. Advance booking required.
The LumiDogs Fashion Parade takes place from 7pm onwards at Jubilee Gardens, North Promenade on 20 September.
