X-Factor winner, Matt Cardle, is the latest star name to be confirmed for this year’s Illuminations switch-on party.
Cardle, who scored a number one hit with a cover of Biffy Clyro’s “When We Collide”, tops a quality undercard which will take to the stage just after 4pm on Friday 29 August to mark the start of five hours of entertainment.
The undercard, which also features the likes of Amelia Lily, boy band Kingsland Road and Melissa Suffield – aka Eastenders’ Lucy Beale, paves the way for a star- studded line-up in this year’s lights Switch-On which is headlined by superstar girl band Little Mix with support from Texas, Pixie Lott, Union J, George Ezra and more.
Britain’s most popular comedian, Peter Kay, will flick the switch at around 9.15pm.
The full undercard line-up reads:
- Matt Cardle
- Amelia Lily
- Kingsland Road
- Jai McDowell
- Harry Mondryk
- Janet Devlin
- Tiger Heart
- Sam Callahan
- Melissa Suffield
- Goodnight April
- Renegade Girls
- Hana Joy

- Myth of Unity
West End star, Leanne Jones, meanwhile, has also been added to the line-up for Saturday night.
Leanne created the iconic role of Tracy Turnblad in the original West End production of ‘Hairspray’ in 2008 performing alongside Michael Ball.
She received huge critical acclaim for her performance and won the Oliver Award for ‘Best Actress in a Musical’.
A contestant on the Voice last year she will provide the perfect complement to Saturday’s show themed entertainment.
Thriller Live, Dirty Dancing – The Classic Show on Stage, Chicago, Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Jon Lee from S Club 7 fame and friends performing songs from The Jersey Boys form a truly top class line-up.
Sunday’s show, meanwhile, is headlined by Rebecca Ferguson with top nineties acts including Atomic Kitten, Liberty X, 911 and Damage also taking part.
Friday night’s show is compered by Rock FM breakfast show duo, Hywel and Jamie, while both the Saturday and Sunday shows will be hosted by Rock FM’s Danny Bee.
Cllr Graham Cain, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for tourism and leisure, said: “This is the final announcement. The full line-up is set and we’re now full steam ahead to show time.
“We’ve got a really exciting and wide-ranging collection of singers, bands and groups, as well as a first class Switch-On superstar in Peter Kay, and excitement is really building.
“There are still a limited number of tickets available for those who wish to buy a ticket for the full weekend – three night’s entertainment for just £25 which is less than £7 per day.
“I’d urge all of Blackpool, the North West and beyond to support Switch-On Festival Weekend and the Illuminations.”
