Blackpool Opera House is to present the World Premiere of the brand new musical Last Night a DJ Saved My Life starring the legendary David Hasselhoff.
The Hoff, as he is known to millions of fans across the world, will lead the cast in the World Premiere when it opens in Blackpool this October.
From the creators of ‘Dreamboats and Petticoats’ and ‘Boogie Nights’ comes a heart- warming and hilarious story promising to be the party night of the year.
Cllr Graham Cain, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for tourism and leisure, said: “This is another fantastic coup for Blackpool and we’re absolutely thrilled to be hosting a World Premiere.
“From attracting a superstar who is a household name all over the world in David Hasselhoff to bringing in a show packed with hits that everyone will love is a real statement from the Winter Gardens.
“Our investment in the Winter Gardens is now really beginning to pay off in terms of the world class shows we’re attracting.
“Tickets are bound to be incredibly popular so I would urge people to snap theirs up early to ensure they get the best seats.”
And Michael Williams, Managing Director of Blackpool’s Winter Gardens, said the show will be fantastic for all music fans, fans of The Hoff and those just looking for a great night out.
He said: “We are thrilled to be announcing that we have a World Premiere at the Blackpool Opera House this year.
“To then have someone as famous and iconic as The Hoff taking the starring role is brilliant. The show looks great and I am confident this will be a memorable occasion for everyone.”
The Hoff plays an extrovert, party going, DJ and night club owner on the party isle of Ibiza at the start of the 90’s. His teenage daughter arrives to stay for the summer and he has to cope with being a single parent to a girl who wants to meet boys and live the party life. Suddenly his motto is “do as I say, not as I did!”
‘Ride on Time’, back to a ‘Saturday Night’ in the 90’s ‘When Things Can Only Get Better’, and ‘The Only Way Was Up. Girls wanted to ‘Spice Up Their Life’, Robbie Williams-types wanted to love these ‘Angels’ and friends promised ‘I’ll Be There For You’. A string of hits from Maria Carey’s ‘Hero’ to M.C.Hammer’s ‘Can’t Touch This’, underscore a fast and funny story that will register with young and old when mobile phones were the size of house bricks, Nintendo Gameboy was the ‘in’ thing and we discovered Windows 95! We watched Beverley Hills 90210, not to mention The Hoff in ‘Baywatch’. Titanic the movie was released and youngsters loved Rugrats and Power Rangers, Michael Jackson married Lisa-Marie Presley, OJ took a drive and Monica Lewinsky and Lorena Bobbit hit the headlines!
Michael added: “Last Night a DJ Saved My Life ticks the box for so many people. Whether you grew up in the 90s, you were listening to your teenager’s music or you were watching the news there was so much going on and it will all be celebrated in this amazing show.
“The Hoff has such incredible appeal anyway and to be able to boast that he is coming to Blackpool to star in a World Premiere is great news.
“We had a fantastic year at the Winter Gardens last year and the shows planned for 2015 are already looking like smash hits with Jesus Christ Superstar, Lord of the Dance and Tommy the Rock Musical among the highlights we have. We know these shows have a wide appeal whether it’s for the whole family, groups on a night out and couples looking for an evening of entertainment.”
The World Premiere of Last Night a DJ Saved My Life is on Friday October 16. It will then run from Saturday 17 to Sunday 1 November.
