Brand new Activity Hub opens in Blackpool 5 April 2022 by Visit Blackpool The much anticipated museum of fun and entertainment will open its doors to visitors next year but the team at Showtown can’t wait to bring a little bit of the Blackpool show-biz magic to residents and visitors to Blackpool this season. The Showtown team will be opening a ‘pop-up’ activity hub at the Houndshill Shopping Centre, Victoria Street which will host a range of family activities and heritage talks throughout the spring and summer of this year. The Activity Hub opens on 6 April with a packed programme of events to entertain visitors during the Easter holidays. They will continue to offer lots more FREE events in the year ahead. The activities include a Clown painting Eggs-travaganza (14 April, 11am - 3pm) which takes Easter crafts to a new circus inspired level and Circus fun (16 April, 11am - 3pm), a chance to learn some skills and find your inner circus performer. On 13 April, there is also a chance to learn Blackpool’s brand new novelty dance, The Blackpool Way and to join in with a big performance at Houndshill Shopping Centre, with dancers from across Blackpool leading the way. For history enthusiasts there will be some circus inspired talks and a chance to get hands on with some objects with a Show and Tell from the Showtown heritage collection. The Activity Hub will also provide the perfect opportunity to Get to Know Showtown (6 April & 27 May) and ask any questions about what the museum will be like. With volunteer drop in sessions and a Young People’s Steering group being set up there are plenty of opportunities for local people to get involved and have a say in the future of the museum. Showtown’s Learning and Engagement Manager, Kerry Vasiliou said “Over the last few years we’ve been offering local community workshops and have delivered some wonderful programmes such as Get Dancing - a brand new novelty dance for Blackpool - and Open up the Mic, a comedy skills programme for young people. Now we’re really keen to meet more residents and visitors to Blackpool and to try out some of the activities and events that they can enjoy when the museum opens next year”. This programme was made possible thanks to the generous support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
