Here are 10 unmissable things to see and do this August…
1. Enjoy the biggest night of Blackpool’s calendar when Peter Kay switches on the world-famous Blackpool Illuminations on Friday 29 August. Enjoy performances by Little Mix supported by Pixie Lott, Texas, Union J, Neon Jungle, George Ezra and more! Limited number of free wristbands still available when you buy a weekend pass for the Blackpool Illuminations Switch-On Festival over the weekend of August 29-31.
2. Take a look at the two new tiger cubs at Blackpool Zoo. The two males are the first Amur tiger cubs to be born at the zoo for more than 18 years. Zoo open daily.
3. Ride The Lights! It’s the only opportunity you will get this year to cycle beneath Blackpool’s world famous Illuminations. Tuesday 26 August on Blackpool Prom
4. Enjoy the magic and the music of the West End’s top musicals headlining with Thriller Live! on the Tower Festival Headland on Saturday 30 August. Other performances include the touring casts of Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage, Chicago and Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Jon Lee, of S Club 7 fame, and friends will perform songs from The Jersey Boys, giving plenty of opportunity to sing your heart out to all your favourite songs and enjoy the evening’s atmosphere. 5. Take in the amazing sight of Illuminasia, Blackpool’s new indoor attraction where illumination meets Chinese lantern making in stunning fashion. Housed within the Winter Gardens. Click here for opening times
6. The world-famous Blackpool Illuminations need no introduction – the facts speak for themselves. Drive, walk or take a tram tour to see millions of sparkling lights and features from 29th August to 9th November.
7. Buy a ticket to Blam! – a spectacular production at The Grand Theatre. Billed as “The Office Meets Die Hard” you will never have seen the likes of this! Runs from August 20-31.
8. Whet your appetite with a visit to the new Switch-On Food & Drink Festival, with a vast array of food and drink stalls on Blackpool Promenade between Central Pier and Blackpool Tower. Open daily from Friday 29 to Sunday 31 August.
9. Listen to the cool sound of international recording artist Rebecca Ferguson beneath the shimmering Illuminations. Rebecca headlines an all-star outdoor concert on the Tower Festival Headland supported by Atomic Kitten, Liberty X, 911 and Damage. Takes place Sunday 31 August.
