The signs are up and the machines are all programmed – Blackpool’s summer parking offer begins tomorrow! (Saturday 7 June)
Finishing touches were today being applied to car parks with posters being put up to make sure local residents and visitors do not miss out on the offer which slashes prices to just £3 for 10 hours parking.
The “Park and Smile” campaign is designed to give people a friendly welcome into Blackpool and comes in response to calls for lower car parking prices from businesses and residents.
A social media campaign is also underway to promote the deal and residents, local businesses and the media are asked to back Blackpool and alert their friends and customers by sharing or “Re-Tweeting” posts by the council’s official social media sites www.facebook.com/bpoolcouncil and www.twitter.com/bpoolcouncil.
Cllr John Jones, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “This is a great offer which I hope will put a smile on people’s faces this summer.
“We hope this will help businesses and residents in Blackpool and what we want now is for everyone to help spread the word.
“We hope residents, business, the media and anyone who loves Blackpool will all do their best to help support local businesses and make sure people don’t miss out.”
The deal means that for just the price of a pint or a posh cup of coffee, residents and visitors can explore everything that Blackpool has to offer from soaking up the sunshine on the beaches to exploring the town’s exciting attractions.
It includes all town centre car parks apart from the popular Central, West Street and East Topping Street car parks which are already very well used at their current pricing point.
The car parks included in the deal, all of which will be priced at £3 for 10 hours, are:
- Bolton Street
- Bonny Street
- Chapel Street
- Cocker Street
- Cocker Square
- Gynn Square
- Lonsdale Road
- Lytham Road
- Queen Street
- South King Street
- Talbot Road
The deal, which more than halves prices at all the car parks, will run every Saturday and Sunday throughout June and July starting from the weekend of June 7 and 8 and finishing on July 26 and 27.
The success of the offer will be reviewed at the end of the deal and will help inform future decisions on car parking tariffs and policy.
