Cllr John Jones, cabinet member for highways said: “The closure of Yeadon Way is now less than a month away and I am keen to give as many people advance notice as possible so that they can plan their route accordingly.
“Members of our highways team will be at each of the area forum meetings to show residents the planned diversion route and also explain how and why the work needs to be undertaken.
“There is a huge amount of work that needs to be carried out but it is vitally important that it is done before the road deteriorates any further. At the request of businesses in the town we have delayed the start of the work until the end of the Illuminations season.
“It is predicted that the work will take five months to complete so our intention is to re-open the road in time for the Easter holidays. There is never a good time to close a main road for this duration but hopefully we have done it when it will cause the least inconvenience.
“A diversion route will be clearly marked directing motorists from the M55 onto Progress Way, Squires Gate Lane, Lytham Road and Waterloo Road. However we fully expect for residents to use their own local knowledge to find the route that suits them.”
Information boards will be on display at the Solaris Centre, New South Promenade for the duration of the work.
A dedicated webpage has been set up with all the information so that hoteliers and coach operators can provide the information to their guests arriving in Blackpool.
