The cast of smash hit show Let It Be will quite literally see their names in Lights in Blackpool.
In a break from their show at the Winter Gardens Opera House cast members James Fox, Paul Canning, Paul Mannion and Luke Roberts backed the Friends of the Illuminations campaign to “Buy a Lamp” in the world-famous Blackpool Illuminations.
The campaign was launched earlier this year and already almost 2,000 light bulbs have been purchased with buyers able to personalise them with their own message.
James Fox said: “I used to come to see the Blackpool Illuminations every year as a child with my family. Great memories. And to have my name up there somewhere means a lot to me…I will never forget sitting in the back of my dad’s car looking up and being amazed by the lights.”
Paul Canning added: “Got my name up in lights! Literally! Signed a light bulb that will be in the world famous Blackpool Illuminations. Made up with that and pleased to be supporting this attraction while in town with Let it be!”
The Friends of the Illuminations launched the campaign in an extra bid to raise funds for the Lights. And at a cost of just £1 per light bulb Friends Ambassador Shirley Hunt said they have proved to be very popular.
Shirley said: “The Buy a Lamp campaign is a great way for people to donate to the Lights so we are delighted the cast of Let It Be are supporting this cause.
“Of course they already have their names in lights because of this fantastic show but we hope that having their names added to our magnificent Illuminations will also encourage others to support our fundraising efforts.”
Cllr Graham Cain, Blackpool Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure, added: “Blackpool is experiencing a fantastic year and it is with shows such as Let It Be and the support of people like the Friends of the Illuminations that our resort will continue to thrive.
“This is a great campaign by the Friends so it is even more pleasing to see it supported by the wonderful performers that come to our town.
“Let It Be is a fantastic show so I am thrilled that the cast are supporting our initiatives.”
LET IT BE is at Blackpool Opera House until Sunday 12 October 2014.
