Rock FM could be putting your name in lights on The Blackpool Tower 2 December 2020 by Visit Blackpool Rock FM are this year working alongside Blackpool Council and VisitBlackpool to add a fantastic new element to the Mission Christmas appeal and inviting people to sponsor one of The Blackpool Tower’s many bulbs to help us fully light up the Tower by the end of the campaign in support of the charity. Alternatively, donate a gift to help make Christmas Day a brighter one for thousands of disadvantaged children across Lancashire. Christmas is going to be tougher than ever for those in need as a result of the COVID-19 global pandemic. With the increase in unemployment and reduction in working hours for many families, Christmas is simply a luxury they cannot afford, families are having to make difficult decisions this Christmas between food/heating and gifts. This year’s Mission Christmas aims to beat last year’s fundraising total and help make sure it can help as many children as possible from across Lancashire. As part of the Big Tower Light Up, Joel from the Rock FM Breakfast show will be going through the list of people who have sponsored bulbs each week in support of the campaign. Ten names will be randomly selected to appear on the Tower heart each Friday from 5pm, commencing Friday December 4th and running each Friday until Friday December 18th 2020. Councillor Gillian Campbell, Cabinet Member for Tourism & Culture at Blackpool Council said: “We are delighted that the iconic Blackpool Tower is being used as a focal point for such a worthy cause. The Blackpool Tower has become a symbol of hope and optimism throughout 2020 and we hope that as many people as possible will contribute to this appeal to ensure that children across the county have a magical Christmas.” By taking part in this amazing opportunity to light up The Blackpool Tower and raise funds for our Mission Christmas campaign, you will be helping us deliver gifts to children who otherwise may wake up on Christmas morning to nothing. With your help, we can add an extra element of joy to this Christmas and deliver something special for those who need it the most. Rock FM Breakfast Presenter Joel Ross, said: “This year is going to be particularly tough for many families across the UK. Mission Christmas is a brilliant way for people to act in the true spirit of the season and give a little something to lift the spirits of disadvantaged young people who really do deserve it. “Last year our listeners really demonstrated their generosity and it was truly amazing what we achieved. This year there have already been so many examples of the community pulling together to support everyone and I know that this year’s campaign will be even better than ever before.” For further details on how you can get involved and add a little extra Christmas spirit, please visit: Light up a child's life in Lancashire this Christmas!
