Keeping all the family entertained on a day out or a short break can sometimes become a bit of a challenge, as you have to struggle with finding activities suitable for all ages and interests.
Blackpool has it covered when it comes to family day trips. With such a range of activities and events available across the spring and summer, every single member of your family is sure to be kept thoroughly entertained throughout your visit.
From beaches and ballrooms to piers to promenades, Blackpool has everything you could possibly need for a memorable day out with the ones you love.
The Blackpool Tower and the attractions nearby
If one thing says Blackpool, it’s the iconic Blackpool Tower that’s been soaring high above the resort for over 120 years. Now home to five attractions it’s the place to be when visiting Blackpool.
Sitting at the base of the great Blackpool Tower, within the giant legs The Blackpool Tower Circus offers classic entertainment with clowning double act Mooky and Mr Boo (open from 26th May to 1st November). Be inspired by the glitz and glamour of Strictly Come Dancing to put on your dancing shoes and sweep gracefully around the famous Blackpool Tower Ballroom. Little ones can also be kept entertained at Jungle Jim’s indoor playground. If theatrical fun with a side of laughter is more for you, then be sure to pay a trip to The Blackpool Tower Dungeons and embrace the darker history of Lancashire with the help of humorous actors and an exciting walk-through experience.
No visit to the seaside resort would be complete without a trip to take in the breathtaking sights from the Blackpool Tower Eye, which offers the best views of the North West from the skywalk – an absolute must for all visitors. Enjoy a full sensory experience with the 4D cinema before travelling up the 380 feet to the spectacular sights.
Stay close by for more fun where all the family can spot a few celebrity faces at Madame Tussauds or meet the creatures of the deep at SEA LIFE. Just a short walk from the tower everyone will enjoy the chance to cosy up to Ant and Dec, Cheryl Cole and Olly Murs, or head off on an underwater journey through SEA LIFE’s tunnel to see tropical sharks, reef fish and rays without ever getting wet.
Stepping outside onto Blackpool beach
If the weather permits, there is nothing quite like spending a sunny afternoon on Blackpool’s award winning sandy beach.
With mile upon mile of sand to stroll along, you and your family can spend quality time building sandcastles, playing beach games and even enjoying a picnic together.
Visiting the three piers that run along the Golden Mile is also recommended. The South Pier is perfect for families, with its Adrenaline Zone, arcade games and traditional rides. Meanwhile the Central Pier has a classic seaside atmosphere, due to its famous Big Wheel, seaside stalls and fairground favourites.
If you and your family fancy delving into Blackpool’s rich history, you may also want to visit the North Pier which has an abundance of Victorian architecture, tea rooms and a delightful carousel for the children.
For the thrill-seekers amongst you, test your limits on the rollercoaster rides at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Voted Best Amusement Park in the UK by Trip Advisor, children and adults alike can get their adrenaline pumping with over 120 rides to choose from – with the new Red Arrows aeronautical inspired Sky Force ride set to excite when it launches on 25th May! Indulge in classic fun on the Big Dipper or visit the UK’s only Nickelodeon Land with TV favourites including SpongeBob SquarePants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Head off the beaten track
If you’re looking for a day away from the seafront, visit the Blackpool Model Village, which is also known as “The Biggest Little Village in Lancashire”.
With handcrafted models and figures amongst gorgeously landscaped gardens, the attraction will provide you and your family with a fun day out that is more relaxed in pace. Alternatively, you can spend a day with the animals at Blackpool Zoo, or stroll amongst the lush greenery and around the relaxing lake at Stanley Park.
