Pensioner Power Heads to Blackpool

Hundreds of delegates will descend on Blackpool for the National Pensioners’ Parliament.
The annual conference, which has been held in the resort for more than 25 years, is expected to attract up to 1,000 delegates from across the UK to the Winter Gardens.
A march along the promenade will kick-off the Parliament on Tuesday 6 June and delegates will then spend the next three days discussing a range of topics varying from State benefits and the NHS to what Brexit means for older people; the importance of housing; transport issues; and local campaigning.
There will also be an evening social event in the Empress Ballroom.
Neil Duncan-Jordan organises the conference in association with VisitBlackpool and he says he is delighted to be bringing the event back to Blackpool again.
He said: “Our Pensioners’ Parliament is all about giving older people a voice. You don’t have to be a member of any association or group to attend, everyone is welcome and we look forward to hearing their opinions.
“We want pensioners to let us know what their concerns are. It is a platform for them to air what’s worrying them, what problems they are having and it means we can find out what pensioners across the UK are thinking about today.
“Our delegates always enjoy visiting the town because it’s at the seaside, many delegates go on to extend their stay into a break in Blackpool and that’s increased in recent years because of the ongoing regeneration of the resort.
“We also receive fantastic support from VisitBlackpool to bring our event to the resort and we are very grateful for this.”
Mandy Tythe-McCallum, Tourism Manager at VisitBlackpool, added: “We are delighted to be welcoming the Pensioners’ Parliament back to Blackpool.
“This is a fantastic event for the resort both in attracting extra revenue for businesses and highlighting the concerns of pensioners today.”
