#LightItInRed 3 July 2020 by Visit Blackpool #LightItInRed is a national event scheduled to take place on the night of Monday 6 July 2020 to draw attention to the critical condition of the UK live event and entertainment industry. The dynamic “creative sector”, which includes live entertainment, music, events, theatre, performance and the arts, generates around £110 billion annually (based on DCMS figures) for the UK economy and is known for its invention, passion, and flair. Currently, unlike other industries, there is no set date for live events, shows, festivals and performances, etc. to restart after the Covid-19 shut down. Fylde based KRS Group, a leading national rigging and production company, were approached to support #LightItinRed, and as former sponsor of Blackpool Illuminations was happy to help. Sven Knight, Managing Director of KRS Group said, “We are delighted to support this national event in Blackpool. We see every day how Covid 19 has affected the lives of all those who work in live events and the arts and we look forward to the return of events when it is safe to do so.” The UK event has been inspired by #NightofLight in Germany on 22nd June, which saw over 9000 buildings, monuments, structures, towers, landmarks, castles, offices, houses, spaces, and places illuminated in “emergency red” to raise awareness for the arts and creative industries. Blackpool, as the UK’s favourite seaside resort is lending its support to the national campaign and will be lighting up the world-famous Blackpool Tower. Blackpool Tower will join iconic buildings and venues across the country including: Royal Shakespeare Company Brighton Palace Pier Oxford Playhouse Liverpool Playhouse Theatre Oldham Coliseum Theatre Jermyn Street Theatre Yvonne Arnaud Theatre The Lowry Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Northern Ballet Theatr Clwyd Leeds Playhouse The National Theatre Somerset House #LightItInRed initiators, Steven Haynes from Clearsound Productions and Phillip Berryman from The Backstage Theatre Jobs Forum, state that the target for this action is to get “1000 buildings and monuments” lit up in red all around the UK. #LightInRed is supported by Plasa the leading association for the live entertainment technology industry.
