Social distancing guidelines over Bank Holiday weekend 22 May 2020 by Visit Blackpool As we approach another Bank Holiday weekend, Blackpool Council is urging everyone to take heed of social distancing guidance in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Enjoying Blackpool over a holiday weekend has always been a popular choice for so many people, residents and visitors alike. However, given the current pandemic and with businesses such as entertainment venues, attractions and restaurants remaining closed the spaces that people could normally visit are temporarily unavailable, meaning that social distancing in the town remains vitally important. On 13 May, the Government issued new guidance which meant that people were allowed to spend more time outdoors including in parks and at beaches, as well as using some outdoor sports facilities. Anyone who comes into Blackpool particularly over the bank holiday weekend are being advised that despite this new guidance, they need to be mindful that they should continue to heed Government messages on staying safe. Signage is being installed in parks and along the promenade urging people to adhere to social distancing advice, avoid gathering in groups and frequently wash or sanitise their hands. Blackpool Council’s Executive Leader, Cllr Simon Blackburn, said: “It remains vitally important that everyone continues to follow social distancing guidelines this Bank Holiday weekend. “While there have been subtle changes to the lockdown measures, we need people to continue to follow Government guidelines to keep the infection rate down. Our priority is protecting the health and safety of the public. “We appreciate how much our residents and visitors value the town’s open spaces, as well as the effect that enjoying the outdoors can have on both their physical and mental health wellbeing. However, the fact remains that we must do everything we can to prevent the spread of COVID-19. “We must continue to protect ourselves and key workers, as well as to reduce the pressure on our health services. “We also continue to advise people to not visit Blackpool right now. We are so much looking forward to welcoming everybody back to enjoy what the town has to offer. But this will only happen when it is safe to do so. For now, we must be patient. Blackpool will be open to all again soon. “I would also ask people to respect our beaches and open spaces and dispose of litter in bins or take it home. Please keep Blackpool tidy for everyone.”
