Ride the Lights is Back for 2019!

It’s the most enchanting bike ride you will ever take – a chance to cycle on a traffic-free promenade beneath the world-famous Blackpool Illuminations.

This year’s event will take place on the evening of Tuesday 27 August when, for one night only, Blackpool Promenade will be closed to traffic and thousands of cyclists will get a sneak preview of the Illuminations ahead of the official Switch-On.
 
This year, Ride the Lights are are collaborating with Access Fylde Coast and Wheels for All to bring twenty cyclists to take part in the Ride the Lights for a special cycle, before the promenade opens up to the public.
 
The Wheels for All initiative is a nationally recognised programme that embraces all children and adults with disabilities and differing needs, to engage in a quality cycling activity providing fun and stimulating cycling across the UK.  By using specially adapted cycles, the activities are both physically and mentally stimulating and above all fun for everyone involved.
Access Fylde Coast Project Manager Holly Whittaker, said: “My uncle was severely disabled and I know first-hand his struggles and the negative experiences he faced, so it personally matters to me to make a difference to people in the same position. Not only for tourists but for residents too.
“Ride the Lights is a great event for us to take part in as well as many other events Access Fylde Coast are involved in, helping to put the Fylde on the map for being champions in best practice for an accessible and inclusive resort.”
 
In addition to the fabulous cycling and the Illuminations, there will also be entertainment on the hub, located on the Tower Festival Headland opposite The Blackpool Tower, with Radio Wave and this year’s Bike Doctors, CJ Cycles.

“Ride the Lights is always extremely popular and every year more and more people flock to the Promenade to take part in this annual event.
 
“It’s great to see how many people illuminate their bikes as well as themselves, making this a fabulous event to take part in.”
