The Mousetrap: A Must-See Classic at the Grand Theatre Blackpool!

When we heard that The Mousetrap would be at The Grand on its 125th Birthday week we could not have been more excited to see this Agatha Christie classic in such a beautiful venue – and of course we were not disappointed!
What can be revealed about this murder mystery is very little. Set in a 1950s country guest house, a young, but naïve couple take on their new business venture of running Monkswell Manor; although their very first guests appear to be a bunch of rather suspicious characters. Cut off from the outside world by heavy snow, a phone call from the police reveals a sergeant is on his way as they believe that there is a murderer in their midst!
Amongst the suspects are a theatrical young man, a hard to please old woman, a retired major, a boyish young woman and an unexpected eccentric Italian who appears from the blizzard. Even the hosts themselves are suspects in this mystery! But as the guests interact it is clear that the all come with their own secrets; but what are they trying to hide?
The play is both tense but amusing, with a joke being made about the murderer wearing a dark coloured coat, light coloured scarf and felt hat which every guest just so happy to arrive in, and a sergeant arriving to the guesthouse on skis in the race to solve the mystery before the murderer can strike again.
The cast are outstanding and the staging is transformative; both making you feel as if you are sat in the
living room with all the guests whilst the felony is ongoing. From the smallest details of seeing the snow fall outside the huge stained-glass window to a radio playing music and news from the 1950s. The guests serving both humour and mystery in their actions, the production creates the perfect atmosphere as expected with an Agatha Christie story.
At the end of the performance you are sworn to secrecy to not reveal the twists and turns of this famous ending – so this is a mystery you’ll have to see for yourself. Be prepared to get swept away with it all as you face countless red herrings and experience edge of seat perching trying to work out who really is the culprit.
If you are a lover of a murder mystery you cannot miss this!
The Mousetrap plays at The Grand Theatre Blackpool until Saturday 27 July 2019. For tickets and information, click here.
