VisitBlackpool today announce that MTV, the world’s biggest youth entertainment and music brand, is set to deliver the 2017 Blackpool Illuminations Switch-On event for the second year running, as part of an ongoing partnership.
The event, which will take place on the evening of Friday 1st September, will build on the huge success of last year’s Switch-On when UK artists including Diversity, The Vamps, Fleur East, Fatman Scoop, Imani, DJ Fresh and R3wire and Varski performed to thousands of fans, culminating in Dame Barbara Windsor flicking on the switch to the famous lights.
The Illuminations Switch-On, is the biggest free event in Blackpool’s calendar, will once again take place on the Tower Festival Headland, with a line-up of stand-out performances from both UK and local talent.
Cllr Gillian Campbell, Deputy Leader of Blackpool Council, said: “We are thrilled that MTV is partnering with us for the 2017 Switch On event.
“Last year, the involvement of MTV demonstrated what it brings to the table in terms of quality. It was one of the best free concerts that Blackpool has ever staged.
“We are looking forward to working with MTV to deliver an event that is as memorable as the 2016 one.”
Mark Swift, SVP UK Cluster Ad Sales, said: “MTV has a long-standing relationship with Blackpool. On the back of last year’s successful partnership we are absolutely delighted to be working with VisitBlackpool again this year to help deliver the Illuminations Switch-On and create a standout night for the people of Blackpool.”
The 2016 Illuminations Switch-On event was widely viewed as one of the best switch-on events in recent years with nearly 20,000 people packed onto the Tower Festival Headland to watch the four-hour show.
As with last year, the Switch-On event will be free, with people invited to apply for the 20,000 wristbands that will guarantee entry to the Tower Festival Headland arena on the night. The wristband ballot closes at 09:00 on the 1st of August. To register, go to our Switch-On page. Good luck!
Further announcements about the event will follow in the coming weeks.
