Taking the plunge as Sea Life Blackpool launches official ‘underwater wedding’ package. 16 March 2017 by Visit Blackpool Staff at SEA LIFE Blackpool have launched their very own ‘wedding beneath the waves’ package. The world famous SEA LIFE Blackpool has received a licence from Blackpool Council’s Register Office to to hold weddings: In the truly memorable shark tunnel amongst the sharks and rays Or in front of the beautiful ocean window, with colourful sea creatures making a spectacular backdrop And even whilst snorkelling inside the shark cage, which will be a UK first! And they’ve already received some enquiries for the venue, usually better known for sharks and stingrays than brides and grooms. General Manager Matthew Titherington explained: “We’ve taken a number of enquiries already from couples, especially diving enthusiasts, who want to get married amongst the underwater creatures.” Couples who opt to take the plunge as they snorkel can choose to either don an alternative underwater look, complete with wetsuit and flippers, or stick to traditional wedding attire. They’ll then be lowered into the main display alongside sharks, stingray and other incredible marine creatures. The happy couple can then exchange their vows in the water, if they wish, with their heads just above the waves so the registrar can hear them clearly. SEA LIFE Blackpool can also provide champagne and canapes for guests on arrival as well as a full wedding breakfast to follow the ceremony. Matthew continued: “The registrar will stand in front of the display to conduct proceedings rather than actually climbing into the tank. “Blackpool Register Office were pleasantly surprised by our request and think it will make an exciting venue and we believe the first of its kind in the UK. “We can promise couples a truly memorable and unusual wedding day. It’ll be a fantastic experience with all the beautiful fish and sea creatures swimming nearby in one of the UK’s most unusual and memorable wedding venues. “We’re now looking for couples who’d be interested in getting married underwater. “Couples who are into diving have already expressed interest.” Couples keen to take the plunge can contact SEA LIFE Blackpool by emailing the aquarium’s Events Manager Lucy Hodge on lucy.hodge@merlinentertainments.biz.
