Star Trek: The Exhibition Celebrates First Birthday With Once-in-a-Lifetime Virtual Reality Experience

Blackpool visitor attraction, Star Trek: The Exhibition, is celebrating its first anniversary on the resort’s Golden Mile by adding a virtual reality, immersive experience to what is already its most popular feature – the U.S.S Enterprise’s ‘Bridge’ – over the weekend of July 8-9.
Over the coming weekend, visitors can enjoy the totally unique and phenomenal experience of taking to the controls of the U.S.S Enterprise through the extraordinary new virtual reality Star Trek game from Ubisoft - 'Star Trek: Bridge Crew' - whilst seated in the visitor attraction’s recreated control room and starship nerve centre.
Whilst Star Trek: The Exhibition, which first opened its doors in July 2016, has treated thousands of visitors to the thrill of sitting at the controls of Captain Kirk’s starship, to pose for photos and video clips, Trekkies and other visitors will never have experienced anything like this. They will be able to take command of both starship and crew, as they are catapulted into a virtual world that sees them exploring space as a Starfleet member.
The new CBS-licensed Ubisoft game is a space passport to Star Trek’s exciting universe. On July 8-9, adults and children alike can shoot for the stars, select warp drive and boldly go where no one has been before. They can assume the role of a Starfleet officer, complete missions that determine the fate of both the starship and its crew and explore entirely uncharted sectors of space – without ever leaving Blackpool!
The game features hand tracking, full-body avatars and real-time lip-sync, which all take the player on a journey into full adventure immersion, interacting with their crew members, protecting the Federation and exploring a space zone called ‘The Trench’. The aim is to find a new home for the decimated Vulcan population, but Klingons are also active in the area and visitors playing the game will have to decide how to tackle the threat.
As well as enjoying this once-in-a-lifetime experience over Star Trek: The Exhibition’s first birthday weekend, visitors will be able to enjoy the regular thrill of seeing over 100 original props, from costumes to Tricorder and scripts to Communicator, which are on show in the visitor attraction. They can also experience the buzz of being ‘beamed up’ in the Starfleet ‘Transporter’, using a special Star Trek: The Exhibition App.
Marketing manager, Mark Williams, says: “We are delighted to celebrate our first birthday with this exciting new virtual reality extravaganza. 'Star Trek: Bridge Crew' is the only game to offer a true-to-life level of immersion in the Star Trek universe and the team at Ubisoft have helped us to combine the game with our existing ‘Bridge’ set, to create a unique experience that’s should generate amazing footfall this weekend. Both fans of Star Trek, and those who know little or nothing about the franchise, have the opportunity to experience something truly incredible, so we hope as many people as possible will turn up and have fun.”
Anyone wishing to experience this amazing thrill should book tickets as soon as possible. Tickets purchased online at www.startrekblackpool.co.uk cost £12.50 for an adult and £9.00 for children aged 10-15. Children aged under 10 enter for free. A family of up to four, of which at least one must be a child, can buy a ticket for £38.00.
Whilst booking is advised, tickets can also be bought on the door for £14.50, £11.00 and £43 respectively. The exhibition is open from 10:00 - 18:00 on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 July, when the unique experience is being offered, and is at 45-59 Promenade, Blackpool.
