The Blackpool Tower Lends its Support for Armed Forces Week 22 June 2018 by Visit Blackpool With Blackpool gearing up for Armed Forces Week (25th June – 1st July) The Blackpool Tower has partnered with Help For Heroes, the UK’s leading support charity for service personnel and military veterans. As part of the town’s week-long activities to mark the annual event, The Blackpool Tower has placed a commemorative Help For Heroes flag at top of the iconic 500ft landmark where it will fly throughout Armed Forces Week. Tony Harris, health and safety manager at The Blackpool Tower and a former serviceman of over 20 years, ventured high up the tower to put the flag in place. He said: “It’s fantastic that a town like Blackpool can come together and pay tribute to the men and women that have served this country. Changing the flag is a small token of our appreciation to the hundreds of veterans and serving personnel who will come to Blackpool next week.” Tony met with Kevin Gray, a former army serviceman from Fleetwood and member of Help For Heroes, who handed the flag over to The Blackpool Tower. Dance For Victory, a special fundraising event in aid of the charity, will be held in The Blackpool Tower Ballroom tomorrow evening (Saturday 23rd June). Kenny Mew, general manager at The Blackpool Tower, added: “Every year we roll out the red carpet for our servicemen and women as an act of gratitude. This weekend, we will recognise those that have given their lives to helping keep this country safe. “It’s the start of a very poignant and important week for Blackpool and its residents.”
