Create your own Blackpool landmark

We want you to create your own iconic Blackpool landmark such as The Blackpool Tower, one of our three piers or the rollercoasters at Blackpool Pleasure Beach! All you need to do is find household items to build your Blackpool fave, take a picture and send it over to us on our social channels (Twitter: @VisitBlackpool - Facebook: @loveBlackpool) for a chance to be featured on our feed! 

Create a wildlife oasis in your garden

We have finally been greeted by Spring, so lift your mood and head out into your garden for a spot of gardening. If you have children, there are plenty of fun ideas to keep the boredom at bay. Here are our favourites below:

Make a bee hotel

Here in the UK, and globally, bees are facing many threats, which means that their numbers have been falling every year. Help play your part in changing these numbers and build your own bee hotel with four household items: a terracotta plant pot, plastic straws, string and modelling clay. All you need to do is follow the simple steps below:

1) Measure the depth of your plant pot and cut the straws to the same length and tie the straws all together with a piece of string.
2)  Add some modelling clay at the bottom of the plant pot and place the straws into the clay.
3)  Gently tip the plant pot horizontally and move it to a suitable place in the garden (please note it needs to be a quiet area). Now all you need to do is sit back and watch the bees move in!

Make a bug hotel

Lancashire Wildlife Trust recently posted a short video on how you can create your own bug hotel.  It's a fun activity for the kids and you can encourage your children to check on the progress of the hotel and observe how many species of insects have moved in. Get involved, get out into the garden and get stuck in with some practical activities to help the wildlife right outside your door.


 

Plant at home using biodegradable household items

Blackpool Park Rangers have been busy delivering online sessions for you to enjoy yourself or with your children. At VisitBlackpool, we especially enjoyed the tutorial on how you can limit your use of plastic plant pots and how you can plant with household items you would normally recycle. Watch the video here, and locate your nearest sheet of newspaper, toilet roll and a tin or jar to get started!
