Getting Around Blackpool
By Tram
Like a trip up the Tower, a tour on the Blackpool Tramway forms an essential part of any visit to the town. It’s quite simply the perfect way to voyage through the seaside resort – with the spectacular coastline on one side and the famous Golden Mile on the other.
The Golden Mile is only really a saying considering the distance from the Blackpool Pleasure Beach to The Blackpool Tower is more like three miles – so the tram is the perfect way to take the strain off your feet!
Originally advertised as ‘the only way to travel’, the whole line stretches 12 miles from Starr Gate to Fleetwood Ferry; stopping close to all the major attractions along the way.
We have been the worldwide launch pad for the state-of-the-art new FLEXITY2 tram from Bombardier – the largest manufacturer of light rail vehicles in the world. Our tram fleet has a first-class focus on passenger comfort and safety – with accessibility features to ensure that everyone can enjoy the ride.
And if you love the traditional Blackpool tram, the £100 million upgrade has allowed our heritage tramcars to run side-by-side with the new models, meaning visitors can continue to experience an authentic tram ride.
Our saver tickets offer great value for money on all Blackpool Transport Buses and Trams. You can buy all tickets on board, at a PayPoint or on the Blackpool Transport app.
There’s a ticket to suit everyone. Travelling for the weekend? There's a 3-day ticket for that. Travelling all week? Then the 7-day ticket is the best value for you. If you’re a regular traveller, then grab a 30-day ticket.

New tramway extension
There is now a tram service from Blackpool North railway station direct to the Promenade. After arriving by train, turn right out of the station, walk under the underpass and find your tram platform. Services run south to Starr Gate (T2), via Pleasure Beach and other seafront attractions; and north to Fleetwood Ferry (T3), via North Shore and Cleveleys.
Details of the full range of tram and bus services are available on the Blackpool Transport Services Ltd website, including the money-saving fare products that are available. All tram services are conductor operated and fares can be paid by contactless card.
Consider downloading the Blackpool Transport Services Ltd smartphone app, which offers journey planning, real time information by stop, access to discounted day pass/season ticket product payment, timetables and service information.
By arrangement with Northern Railway, a rail ticket including use of the Blackpool Tramway can be purchased, for convenience and value for money. Alternatively a PlusBus add on can be attached to your ticket.
